Friday nights in downtown Burlington NC have recently become a whole lot more interesting. Company Shops Market, the newly opened co-op grocery store located in historic downtown Burlington, has enlivened their block on the Eastern end of Front Street. With cheerful umbrella covered tables, fresh and wholesome cafe offerings and a new live music series, the Market has local drivers slowing down to see what’s going on. If you have spent time downtown, even up to a few months ago, you will understand why they are surprised… and curious.  Downtown Burlington has long dropped off the cultural and social radar and many expressed regret that the once bustling historic downtown area was dying.  These days things are changing and a group of dedicated shopkeepers, energetic citizens, non-profits and local government staffers are working to breath new life into the area. The Market offers wine and beer tastings most Friday evenings, along with live music and dinner offerings from their cafe. In fact, Friday nights at Company Shops have become so popular that you will want to BYOS (bring your own seat) as outdoor tables fill quickly.

On this particular night, local favorite, Mebanesville was entertaining the crowd with their “Living locally, enjoying music globally” mix of folk, rhythm and world music.
