Beautifully imperfect…. No doubt, Miss P’s mother will roll her eyes when she sees this and make some remark about taking photos when “P” is a mess. That’s because her mother is a fashion major, a former photo stylist…. and my sister. She has a talent for making things beautiful. And yet I find this photograph to be imperfectly perfect. It captures the spirit of this age, complete with chocolate cookie crumbles down the front of her pajamas.

When I think about great kids portrait photography, so many of us are trying to capture those perfect moments. You know, where everyone is smiling blissfully with beautiful clothes and perfect hair. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE those photos. Still, I think it is equally important to capture the beauty of true-self and true-life even if there are a few flaws. In capturing photos like this one, I hope that my sister will be able to look back and remember her beautiful daughter on a chilly sunlit morning, full of 1 yr old mischievous independence…. and cookie crumbles

Real Life. Real Beautiful.
