The next lens on my wish list is the Canon 24-70L, or the older 28-70L…. At least I think it is. I am a picky shopper so I like to get my hands on things and test them out before I purchase them if at all possible. The specs might sound great but it just doesn’t feel good in my hands. Or there is some functional difference between one lens or another that you only notice once you’ve started using it. Buying a new lens in not yet in the short-term budget, so I’ve tucked that wish in the back of my mind that I want the opportunity to test out a 24/70 or 28/70 to see if I like it.
You’ve probably noticed that I consider myself to be a Lucky person. You could say it is one of my life philosophies. I’m not talking about lucky as in blind chance, but lucky in that I think about the things I want, (try to) give myself the permission to dream (big and small), and wait for opportunities to present themselves. Being lucky is very much about preparing yourself by identifying your goals (the things you want), opening you mind to the possibilities achieving those goals and how that might be accomplished (dreaming while tuning out your brain’s reflex reactions of “I can’t”), and identifying opportunities to further your goals when they appear.
All that lofty sentiment to say, I have my hands on a Canon 24-70L for the weekend!! And you’ll never believe who lent it to me. My dentist! Yup, that’s right. My dentist. He had one sitting on his desk while we were chatting about other matters. I noticed it. Then I mentioned that it was on my wish list of lenses and he said “I’d be happy to let you borrow it, if you want”. Um, yes please!
By the way, he is a great dentist. Especially if you have complicated teeth or jaw pain. Of which I have/had both. My parents have given me many wonderful things, but great teeth genetics wasn’t one of them. I’ve spent more time at the dentist than anyone could wish while my husband has near perfect teeth. So I’ve had the opportunity to get to know Dr Hart and his staff over the last few years, which is probably why Dr Hart was generous enough to lend me his fancy lens. I highly recommend Dr. Hart if you are in need of restorative dentistry here in the Triad-Piedmont region of NC.
