We had another lovely night out at The Eddy in the formerly sleepy town of Saxapahaw. We love the growing community of artisans, creative thinkers, families, farmers, and conscientious individuals who are building an interwoven network of camaraderie and support. I grew up moving around the country, which I saw as a great adventure. But it means that this is the first time I have been a part of a deep roots community like those forming around Saxapahaw and Company Shops Market in Burlington. It just goes to show that wholesome local foods prepared with intention and love not only feeds the body but feeds the soul.

Speaking of feeding the body and soul, we had some super delicious food grown and raised by some of our friends and cooked to perfection in the kitchen of Jeff Barney. Between our party of 5, we enjoyed local bratwurst with mashed potatoes, mixed local sausage gougeres from Farmhand Foods and Cane Creek Farm, goat shepherds pie and a huge porkchop from Cozi Farm. Our meal was complimented by the musical talent of Steph Stewart and the Boyfriends and the pleasure of running into friends and meeting new people.

Normally I would offer up some photographic evidence of the delectable foodie dinner offerings but we happened to be sitting at the darkest table in the pub… so there was not enough light without interrupting people with flash, which I try not to do. We did however grab a few photos of the Eddy staff in action, as well as the band.

Cold local beer. The Eddy features several North Carolina microbrews on tap:

The lovely Eliza chats with patrons as she lights a new candle for their table. Eliza is an accomplished horsewoman, teacher and trainer specializing in dressage. Her father raises grass-fed beef that is frequently on the menu.

Oh yum, I forgot to mention the tres leches with caramel sauce. It’s delicious and our table decide to share one. This is Ron, who is a nutritionist and consultant in addition to being part of the Saxapahaw General Store / Eddy family. Shown delivering some tres leches to a nearby table:
