When I heard that Lizzy and Dylan were going to play an acoustic set at The Eddy last, I grabbed Nate and suggested that we head down to Saxapahaw for dinner. We were greeted with the most spectacular Saxapahaw sunset we’ve seen yet. Just gorgeous.
(This is straight out of the camera. No photoshop wizardry here. It really looked just like this. Amazing.)
Recently, I heard a successful photographer make the statement that they think that photographers should only blog about their business and keep their personal life to themselves. I have to say that I couldn’t agree less. The reason I’m a photographer is to document and celebrate the amazing goodness in my life and the lives of those I photograph. So I’m going to go ahead and tell you all about the fabulous night we had and all the wonderful people we feel privileged to call friends. Feel free to skip this one if you too think that photography blogs are for business only.
We were both pretty worn out from our not-quite-finished work week so we planned to just go down for an hour to enjoy a quick dinner. Of course, that never seems to happen. So many great people make The Eddy their “third place” hangout (somewhere that’s comfortable but not work and not home) that we ended up spending well over our self-imposed 1 hour limit to laugh, gossip, taste and share with friends.
We ran into the lovely Heather LaGarde and Mark O’Brian who were busy putting together details for the Haw River Supergroup event coming to The Haw River Ballroom on May 7. The Haw River Supergroup is a one night only consortium of local musicians singing songs about the river. They will be performing for the “Hard Hat Gala“, offering a sneak peak at the new Haw River Ballroom from 8-10pm (donations at the door to benefit the Haw River Assembly).
We were thrilled to see Sarah and Derek come in the door. You may remember their wedding we photographed last year.
Just as I was perusing the menu, which changes frequently based on whats fresh, Chef Jeff Barney stopped by to say hello. Despite all the fabulous offerings on the menu, I am a tremendously finicky eater. I wish I wasn’t, and I’m trying to change but… sometimes I just cant do it. I really wanted to try out the house-made pasta with mushrooms but I didn’t want smoked duck. Jeff was gracious enough to ask a few questions about why I didnt want the duck (I dislike rich dark poultry meats and prefer blander white meat). Since they were already past the dinner rush, Jeff hooked me up with a custom order that did not involve smoked duck legs. Perfect. Loved it. Thank you!
While all this lovely socializing was going on, Lizzy and Dylan were playing the soundtrack to our idyllic evening. Towards the end of the evening, Lizzy played a new song that really sums up how Nate and I feel about the community that has formed around us over the past few years.
Hopefully she won’t mind my sharing a few of the lines here. It goes roughly like this: “Headed down south…, I got family down there. I got people who care. I know they will be there for me…. I dont worry too much. I know if it gets rough… there will be enough love for me.” She is singing about the importance of having a community of people in your life as your support structure, especially for the many of us who’s lives have led us to live in different regions than where our family comes from.
Oh, and because no blog about The Eddy is complete without some foodie photos, and because its fresh strawberry rhubarb pie season around here:
Great shots! We love The Eddy and are excited to see The Haw River Ballroom open soon.
Thank you. I’m so glad you stopped by our blog. We really have such a great time whenever we head over to The Eddy or Sax Gen and are almost guaranteed to run into people we know and love.
