Knock, Knock. “Aunt Sarah, will you take a picture of us in our dresses?” If ever there was a girly girl, my niece Parker is it. She was wearing a blue cinderella dress and an ernest expression.
They were Cinderella and her mean step-sister, they were Cinderella meets Sleeping Beauty (so both girls could be “princesses” at the same time). They swapped roles, they changed dresses, they giggled, danced, twirled, and vacuumed. They brought me a glass of water and lovingly kicked out the boys. They asked if my camera did video, not realizing I had already sneaked some filming in. Amazingly, all of this happened with no prompting or direction on my part.
Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. ~ Albert Einstein
About This Shoot:
When ImagingUSA held its annual conference in Atlanta, I took the opportunity to spend time with my sister and her family who live nearby, making their house my home base. At the time my niece Parker knocked on the door, I was offloading images my laptop in a tiny room used for storage and an impromptu office. It was the one room in the house that “the kids never go in”. As the girls squeezed into the room, full of bubbly happiness, I made the conscious decision to embrace the space. It was dark out and there was just one overhead bulb illuminating the space. We were surrounded by boxes, dog food bags, bicycle and vacuum cleaner. Not exactly ideal. But that moment… when two beautiful little girls invite you to share in their pretend world… that moment is ideal and its priceless and its perfect.
