White Flowers + Pretty Glass Bottles = Endless Possibilities

Our friends Greg & Katharine threw a beautiful garden party reception after their recent wedding, with tables full of  gorgeous white flowers. Lisianthus, Hydrangea, Star of Bethlehem, Fresia…. At the end of the night, guests were offered bouquets of flowers made from the centerpieces (insert squeal of delight here), but the vases had to be returned to the florist. No problem. I’ve got it covered. The next morning I set to work creating this for our breakfast table.

Instead of one large bouquet, I often split the flowers among bottles and jars of different sizes and heights to create a centerpiece or mantle display with more impact than a single large bouquet. I like to keep interesting glassware in convenient sizes just for this purpose.

P.S. Luck-y Life: Until recently, I had a dozen or so random bottles and jars clustered on my desk. The result of some spring cleaning going on here at the house. Nate wanted me to evaluate our collection and these were the bottles he considered to be less interesting and/or easy to replace. “I know you have a thing for glass containers, and I want you to be happy, but do we really need all of these?” I did pair down my collection but gave the image above as an example of why I “need” bottle/jars/vases in different shapes and sizes with subtle color variations. Plus I like to have several that I can gift away with cut flowers from our yard. I think it’s lost on him, but then I don’t fully appreciate the merits of  his collection of 42 different kinds of screwdrivers ;)
