They met in Wilmington. Both were attending UNC-Wilmington at the time, where Mitch was the social director for his fraternity and the life of the party wherever he went. A friend kept telling Mitch, “You have got to meet this girl”. So not long after, Mitch and Katie found themselves at the same July 4th party, that lead to an outdoor concert that kicked off ‘the best first date ever’. They realized they had a lot more in common than an appreciation for live music and pretty much become inseparable from then on. So it seems only appropriate that Mitch planned to pop the question on the anniversary of their first meeting. “Mitch said he had every intention of waiting until July 4th when we planned to return to the island where we first met four years before. However, he must have gotten antsy and didn’t make to the 4th. He proposed outside of our favorite restaurant in Wilmington the night of July 3rd.”
Mitch’s family has made Pinehurst their vacation retreat for generations. So it was an easy choice to plan their wedding at the Pinehurst Resort and share this favorite place with friends and family.

Backstory: It was a warm fall evening when we pulled into the parking lot. Over a spread of sushi and with much delighted laughter, we celebrated Mitch & Katie’s recent engagement. We flipped through images and albums from recent weddings and began to make plans. Which lead to a weekend in Pinehurst full of amazing food and libations, puppy shenanigans, and gorgeous photos. I love when this happens. This is just one example of the huge blessings of being a professional photographer: When friends become clients (and when clients become friends). ~ Sarah
