If you don’t already know about this forward thinking t-shirt company, you should get to know them. As apparel manufacturing was moving overseas to cheaper labor markets and many area textile business began to go out of business, TS Designs began to reinvent itself. They became convinced that environmentally friendly and sustainable t-shirt printing was the right thing to do. They even updated their tagline to “Printing T-Shirts For Good”. They believed that informed consumers would stand behind their mission of “people, planet, profit”.
Located right here in Alamance County, this Burlington company has pioneered the Cotton of the Carolinas program. When they had trouble sourcing US grown organic cotton, they took matters into their own hands. They started by seeking out a farmer willing to grow organic cotton and then connected the dots. They found regional business to farm, gin, spin, knit, finish, cut and sew organic t-shirts. All of them in the Carolinas. It has become commonplace for many companies to “greenwash” their products, spouting the things their company is doing to be environmentally friendly, while their corporate culture doesn’t reflect these ideals. From the solar panels on the roof to the company garden to their biodisel powered delivery truck, if you are looking for the real deal, these guys are it.
