It’s a rainy day here in Graham NC and we have spent the afternoon snuggled into our home, enjoying a day of rest. We were recently out at Cane Creek Farm on a day much like this one. The skies were gray with a steady march of raindrops on the tin roof for the farm store.

When we got there, I was greeted by a smiling, dripping wet Eliza MacLean. As she walked towards me it really hit me what it means to be a farmer. For most of us, the inconvenience of a rainy day is having to decided if we want to grab an umbrella for the quick dash from the car to the door. For the Cane Creek Farm staffers, it means that they need to grab some rain gear and continue on with their day, rain or shine. In this case, with the drip drip of water drops spilling of the brims of their hats.

The task at hand was to fill huge bags full of grain that needed to be loaded into a truck. So we have cold, rain, tractors, machinery, and clouds of chafe/dust coming off the grain. It’s a hearty life for sure.

The guy on the left… He’s the truck driver. He could have stayed warm in the cab of his truck but he decided to come out in the cold, rain and mess to join in the effort and help get the job done. I’m sure the Cane Creekers were grateful.

We are not farm workers or truck drivers, so what were we doing out at the farm on such an inhospitable day? We had multi-fold reasons for being there, none of which were related to photography.

1) We were there to refill our freezer with dog food. We feed our Luck-y puppy a wholesome diet that includes real meat and bones. Whenever Cane Creek Farm has any meat that can’t be sold for whatever reason: a label comes off, a bag gets ripped, not enough people are looking for liver that month, etc, they make it available at a reduced price for use as pet food for people who feed raw*.

2) Nate was there to install new internet cabling in their office. While Nate is my trusty and talented photography sidekick, he is also the owner of an IT company that provides small businesses with consultation and support for IT/Networking needs. It is his eye for detail, drive to create simple and effective solutions and his honest interest in the needs of others that makes him a great photographer and a great IT professional.

3) I was there to meet with Cane Creek Farm’s new business manager to discuss website, marketing and social media strategies for the farm. I am a storyteller. When I’m not busy telling stories through my photography, I’m busy telling stories through website design, and social media updates for my clients.

I hope you enjoyed a little peek into our daily life. If you want us to tell the story of Your Life, Your Business, Your Wedding… please feel free to contact us at info@luckphotography.com for more details.

* We are big fans of feeding your dog a B.A.R.F (bones and raw food) diet. We have seen the difference it makes in our dogs lives. That being said, it’s not for everyone and it requires more knowledge, forethought and intention than feeding commercially prepared dog foods. Much like feeding your own family in a healthy and wholesome way rather than consuming packaged and processed foods. If you are interested, please be sure to educate yourself on your pets nutritional needs so you know they are getting everything they need for a happy healthy life.
