We are big fans of travel here at Luck Photography. I had the great opportunity to travel and move around the country as a child. Like my brother and my mother, I must admit that the travel bug bit me hard. So we make it a point to intentionally plan a week long vacation every year where we can go explore somewhere new. Last year we chose to take a road trip through Colorado. We flew into Denver, grabbed our rental car and had just enough time to make it to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs just as the sun was beginning to drop low in the sky. The gorgeous rock spires were glowing orange.

I have to admit, I was anxious to go exploring and was planning to quickly use the facilities at the visitor center and then head straight out into the park. Nate, being the thorough person that he is, couldn’t believe I was going to skip all the exhibits in the visitor center museum. I’ll admit, they had some interesting information about the park, wildlife, history, etc. I’m glad we took a few minutes to look around. But in my mind I was dancing around like an anxious child. I could see those big beautiful rocks practically on fire with the setting sun’s illumination. It was like a siren’s call. My travelers heart just could not wait to get out there.
We hit the trails and found a high perch to watch the sunset. I sat in the sun, gloried in the view, watched a bunch of teenage hikers scramble up to heights that were a little too perilous for me, and of course I explored, camera in hand. I photographed Nate and rocks and plants and sun. Yes, after a long day of travel from North Carolina to Colorado, all was right with the world.
We lingered a little longer after the sun dropped behind a ridge.
Knowing we would be moving on in the morning, I wanted to soak in every last minute of the garden before nightfall.

There are never enough hours in the day, but hopefully I can squeeze a few more out to bring you more Travel Tuesdays in the future.
